HP Appoints Emma Walmsley As Chief Executive
HP Inc. has appointed former GSK Chief
Executive Emma Walmsley as its next CEO, effective 4 January 2027. She will
succeed Bruce Broussard, who has served as interim CEO since February 2026 and
will take over as Chair of the Board from Chip Bergh on the same date.
Walmsley led GSK from April 2017 to December 2025, overseeing a
major transformation of the global biopharmaceutical company, including a
sharper focus on specialty medicines and vaccines, changes to its research and
development pipeline and the separation of its consumer healthcare business.
She joined GSK in 2010 and became CEO of GSK Consumer Healthcare
in 2015 before taking charge of the wider group. Earlier, she spent 17 years at
L’Oréal, leading global consumer businesses. She has also served on Microsoft’s
Board of Directors for seven years.
HP said the appointment followed a global search and highlighted
Walmsley’s experience in leading large organisations through transformation.
The company is looking to strengthen its position as artificial intelligence
reshapes personal computing and the future of work.
Broussard, who will become Board Chair, said Walmsley’s
leadership experience would help bring HP’s businesses, capabilities and people
together as the company pursues its next phase of growth. Bergh, who has
chaired the board since 2017, will continue in the role until the transition
takes effect.
