Odisha To Introduce ‘AI For All’ Course For AEDP Students From 2026-27
The
Odisha Higher Education Department will replace the Good Citizenship course
with an ‘AI for All’ value-added course for students enrolled in the
Apprenticeship Embedded Degree Programme (AEDP) from the second semester of the
2026-27 academic session.
Director of Higher Education Kaliprasanna Mohapatra has
directed higher education institutions to implement the revised course during
the current academic session. The initiative aims to equip students with basic
knowledge of artificial intelligence (AI) and practical skills relevant to
workplace requirements before they begin their industry apprenticeship.
The new course will follow the structure of the ‘AI for
All’ skill enhancement course already offered to students outside the AEDP.
Institutions have been asked to make the necessary arrangements for its rollout
from the second semester, replacing the existing Good Citizenship course in the
programme.
The curriculum change comes as Odisha
expands the reach of its AEDP across higher education institutions. The
programme has grown from 31 institutions offering two subjects in the previous
academic year to 81 institutions offering 11 subjects in 2026-27.
Under the AEDP structure, students undertake two years of
academic learning followed by one year of apprenticeship training, allowing
them to gain industry exposure alongside their degree education.
The state higher education department has
also partnered with NASSCOM to provide online AI training to more than one lakh
students and faculty members. The collaboration aims to strengthen
technology-related skills across higher education institutions.
The introduction of the ‘AI for All’ course for AEDP
students is part of the state's broader effort to integrate AI learning into
degree programmes and improve students' preparedness for industry requirements.
