Global Tech Leaders Come Together to Launch Amazon Bestselling Book ICONIC Leadership
With artificial intelligence reshaping the workplace
and increasingly taking on tasks involving analysis, execution, and
decision-making, 20 leaders from technology, business, entrepreneurship, public
service, and social impact came together to launch ICONIC Leadership, an Amazon
No. 1 best-selling book, amidst much fanfare. ICONIC Leadership is a global
leadership initiative spearheaded by technology and leadership veterans Dee Dee
Walsh and Chaitra Vedullapalli. The book, which was launched at the World Trade
Center, Seattle, answers a fundamental question that has emerged as the world
grapples with AI challenges: What becomes more important for leaders when
machines can do more? The initiative brings together the ICONIC Leadership Arc,
Five Governing Laws, 20 leadership journeys, assessments, learning experiences,
and global partnerships to help leaders navigate disruption, build trust,
create opportunity, and generate lasting impact. The book also features a
foreword by Reshma Saujani, founder of Girls Who Code and CEO of Moms First,
and was brought to life with the support of more than 150 Kickstarter backers.
Commenting on the book launch, Chaitra Vedullapalli, Co-founder & President
of Women in Cloud, said, “Electricity did not transform society when the grid
was built; it transformed society when leaders redesigned life around its
possibilities. Dee Dee and I saw a collision coming from a mile away: frontier
technology such as AI racing toward exhausted leaders, collapsing trust, and
institutions that move at the speed of a committee meeting. We knew somebody
was going to get hit, and we decided it would not be the leaders we could still
reach in time. What I felt was missing was not another framework about
quarterly goals. Every other book on that shelf assumes stability. I needed one
built for a world that no longer waits for permission to change, one that
combines values with velocity, imagination with accountability, and personal
ambition with collective action. ICONIC Leadership is that book. It will answer
a fundamental question: As machines become more capable, what must you become?”
The 20 leaders have shared their experiences spanning
technological change, organisational transformation, entrepreneurship, setbacks
and reinvention. Rather than focusing solely on conventional success stories,
ICONIC Leadership examines the choices, behaviours and human qualities that
shaped each leadership journey. Global Leaders include Patti Dobrowolski,
Akhtar Badshah, Dee Dee Walsh, Gavriella Schuster, Anand Eswaran, Gillian
Muessig, Kim Smith, Shreya Krishnan, Catherine Gray, Karen Cone, Patty Kuderer,
Sherlaender Phillips, Chelsey Galipeau PA-C, Tama Smith, Ram Dutt, Monika Mital
Gupta, Dexter Hardy, Edie Fraser, Dan Schlotfeldt, and Heather Cook.
ICONIC Leadership makes a simple case: as AI becomes
more powerful, human leadership becomes more important. AI can perform more
tasks, but it cannot replace the human qualities that drive meaningful change,
trust, judgment, collaboration, adaptability, creating opportunities, and
empowering others.
A Framework for Leadership in the AI Economy
At the centre of ICONIC Leadership is the ICONIC
Leadership Arc, a framework built around six practices: Inclusive Foundations,
Collaborative Partnerships, Open Access, Navigational Agility, Innovative
Solutions, and Collective Action.
The framework, together with the Five Governing Laws
of ICONIC Leadership, is designed to help leaders translate these principles
into everyday leadership, from making decisions and navigating disruption to
building trust, creating opportunities, and enabling others to succeed.
The launch also marks the start of a global leadership
movement that has an ambitious goal to develop 10,000 ICONIC Leaders across 100
cities. The initiative aims to create an ecosystem where leaders can learn and
practice the ICONIC framework, build meaningful relationships, and translate
leadership principles into action.
The effort builds on Women in Cloud’s global community
of 150,000 people across 120 countries and an ecosystem that has helped
facilitate $600 million in economic access.
