BharatPe Introduces Flex To Bring Credit Into Everyday UPI Payments

BharatPe brings BharatPe Flex, a new credit offering designed to integrate borrowing into everyday UPI payments, at the Global Fintech Fest 2026 in Mumbai. The product marks an expansion of the fintech’s credit proposition as digital transactions become increasingly linked with formal lending.

The launch comes as UPI-based credit continues to gain traction, with policymakers and financial institutions looking to use digital payment infrastructure to improve access to formal credit. At the Global Fintech Fest, the Department of Financial Services also announced that borrowers under the Kisan Credit Card and PM MUDRA schemes can use sanctioned credit limits for merchant payments through UPI.

BharatPe Flex is aimed at making credit available within the payment experience rather than treating borrowing as a separate process. The model could allow merchants to use their existing digital transaction activity as part of their broader financial profile.

The move reflects a wider shift in India's fintech ecosystem, where payment data and digital transaction histories are increasingly being used to improve credit access. UPI has also become an important channel for expanding formal finance among small businesses and underserved borrowers.

For BharatPe, the offering builds on its existing focus on merchant payments and lending. The company has previously expanded its credit portfolio through lending partnerships, including products for merchants and secured lending.

The launch comes as fintech companies and banks increasingly look to integrate payments, lending and other financial services on a single digital platform.

The broader industry is also moving towards using transaction-level data and digital public infrastructure for credit assessment. RBI Governor Sanjay Malhotra recently highlighted cash-flow-based lending and the Unified Lending Interface as tools that can help improve credit access for MSMEs.
